Rick Gavos received his BFA in communication design from Texas Tech University. Prior to forming Gavos+Helms Design in 1991, he was a senior designer with HarrisonSimmons for three and a half years. Before joining HarrisonSimmons, Rick was a principal in Lively, Gavos and Associates for eight years. His design work has spanned some three decades in the Dallas area. Over the years, he has worked with some of the most prestigious corporations in the southwest, including The LTV Corporation, The Southland Corporation, TGI Friday’s, The Associates Corporation of North America, The Western Company, UCCEL Corporation, and many others.

His work has been recognized internationally by such shows as Graphis, Communication Arts, Print Magazine, The New York Art Directors Show, Print Casebooks, and The AR100. Rick is a founding member and past board director of AIGA/Texas. He is a current member of AIGA/Dallas, The Nasher Sculpture Center, and The Modern Museum of Fort Worth.

In 2012, Rick completed a Master of Fine Arts in visual communication from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

David Helms received his BFA in advertising/ communications in 1974 from Guilford College in Jamestown, North Carolina. Before joining Rick to form Gavos+Helms in 1991, he was principal of David Helms Design, a corporate design and communications firm in Dallas. His extensive background includes agency work on a variety of accounts on the local, regional, and national levels from consumer package goods and fast food to banking/financial and high technology.

As well as his agency experience, David has been heavily involved in the concept, graphic design, and implementation of annual reports, corporate identity programs, and direct marketing programs for various corporations. Before leaving to open his own firm in 1987, David served as Creative Director/Group Head at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising in Dallas.

He has received numerous awards for his accomplishments, including work for the Dallas Museum of Natural History’s Ramses the Great exhibit. David is a current member of the Dallas Society of Visual Communications.
